SOUP FOR THE SOUL

SOUP FOR THE SOUL

Help support Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital’s Arts in Healing program throughout the month of October with your favorite bowl of soup!

Soup for the Soul, an annual month-long fundraiser, takes place every Wednesday at select restaurants throughout the Spokane area, with some venues participating every day of the month.

Arts in Healing provides hospitalized children with creative therapy including visual arts, creative writing, music and dance. Research shows these therapies can help reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, minimize the need for pain medications and promote overall well-being.

Participating restaurants pledge a portion of their Wednesday soup sales or a minimum $200 donation. Soup for the Soul has raised more than $35,000 in the past nine years, with last year’s total at more than $5,000.

The Arts in Healing staff makes approximately 2,000 visits to patients and their siblings each year.

“Arts in Healing makes a profound difference in the lives of our patients and their families,” said Ann Walker, Arts in Healing coordinator. “Being creative is a proven way for kids to express and communicate the difficult emotions that go along with illness and hospitalization. There have been many times that parents have said the first time they have seen their child smile while in the hospital is when they are getting creative.”
