5 HEALTHY LUNCH OPTIONS TO GRAB DURING HOOPFEST

5 HEALTHY LUNCH OPTIONS TO GRAB DURING HOOPFEST

If you’re anything like me, healthy dining on the go is a necessity. But, the quick, “cheap” food options are far too commonly foil-wrapped meals that leave you feeling like crap with a bad taste in your mouth, literally and figuratively. I have scoured downtown Spokane and put together a list of five eateries that serve up delicious, fresh, and (most importantly) healthy eats that will keep you in tip-top athletic shape.

Method Juice Cafe

718 West Riverside Ave

I didn’t believe a cafe with an all-natural, 100% organic, vegan menu could have incredible tasting food. Until I tried Method Juice Café and they turned me into a believer. I instantly feel in love with their organic smoothies, juices, acai bowls, salads, rice bowls and more. You can get a hearty bowl packed with protein from quinoa, veggies, and avocado with your favorite sauce or choose a refreshing smoothie or açaí bowl to cool you down on a hot day and give you that boost of energy (and hydration) you need to power through.

Boots Bakery & Cafe

24 W. Main Ave. Spokane, WA

Don’t be afraid to try boots if you aren’t vegan or gluten free. Their vegan dishes are so good you won’t even miss the meat. If you ARE vegan or gluten-free, this is your safe haven. Their menu selection changes daily based on ingredients that are brought to them from local farmers. I love their salad trio plate where you can choose create your own nutrient-packed lunch just how you like it.

They serve, hands down, the tastiest no-bake cookie I have EVER had. They are chilled and moist with nuts and dried fruit. So. Dang. Good. Grab a seat and catch up on some work, meet a friend for coffee, or nestle into a chair and enjoy some quiet time with a book. You’ll fit right in.

Healthy Lunch Downtown Spokane

Domini’s Sandwich

703 W Sprague Ave Spokane, WA

Pastrami. Pepper jack. Mustard. On French. YUP.

Domini’s menu is simple. Choose your meat, cheese, spread and bread. Their meat is freshly sliced and the bread is soft and thick. They give you fresh popcorn with your meal and the staff is friendly and proud of what they do, as they should be.

I go to Hoopfest for the basketball, but I stay for the food. If you’re looking for a lunch to fuel your game without all the grease and processed ingredients, check out Domini Sandwiches.

Main Market Coop

44 W Main Ave, Spokane, WA

Main Market Co-op is home to the only organic salad bar in Spokane. I thought I would miss having a Whole Foods nearby, but Main Market makes me forget Whole Foods even exists. They have a rotating hot bar and cold salad bar with selections that change daily. Their salad dressings are BOMB. In the grocery section, you can find a wide variety of locally made/supplied products and goods. Visit their bulk food section to stock up on some of your kitchen essentials like flour, oats, rice, nuts, etc.

So, if you are looking for a healthy, quick AND organic lunch, Main Market co-op is your place. Because what’s better than getting your grocery shopping done at the same place you get your lunch? Two birds… One stone.

Tortilla Union

808 W Main Ave, Spokane, WA

After dining at Tortilla Union for Restaurant Week, I realized they are surprisingly underrated!  You can get any of their street tacos for only $2 all day every Thursday or daily from 2-6pm along with drink specials. They have a variety of healthy options to choose from including salads, steak and sweet potato hash, soup, guacamole, and more! The ambiance is fun and warm with classy decor, a fire-place, big bar area, and it’s right next door to Nordstrom at River Park Square. Delicious food and divine shopping? Shwing!
