Your “one-day” guide to seeing the best sites and eating the best food at each one.
Begin in Bellevue (where you should stay to avoid the Seattle crowds and high hotel prices).
Pre- Breakfast: Top Pot Donuts (10600 NE 9th Pl, Bellevue, WA 98004 //425.457.7440)
… Because by the time you get to your real breakfast everyone will be too hangry to function. (This is great for people who stay in Bellevue to avoid the Seattle traffic. There are multiple locations.) Quick service and great variety, even on a Saturday morning.
Make your way toward Pike Place Market via the Light Rail. Buy an all day pass for $6. We took this from Tacoma International Station (free parking) to the Westlake Station- Great shopping! Since we got the boys a “pre-breakfast” donut, they were willing to put up with a quick breeze through Nordstrom Rack and Zara as we got into the Westlake Station.
Breakfast: Biscuit Bitch (1909 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101 // 206.441.7999)
Walking distance from the Westlake Station. These biscuits are BITCHIN! The most perfect combination of buttery biscuits, gravy, grits, egg, sausage, etc. I am from the south and this dish was just as good as any I have had back home. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and it’s in a great location to eat then walk to Pike Place market.. where you will hopefully eat some more 🙂
Explore the market to your hearts desire. It is full of gorgeous floral boquets for $15, fresh fish, beautiful artwork, see the first Starbucks, get some mini donuts from Daily Dozen, stick a piece of gum on the gum wall, etc, etc. See more on what to do at Pike Place HERE.
Lunch: Uneeda Burger (4302 Fremont Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103 // 206.547.2600)
(we went for dinner but lunch would be better because you can enjoy warmer patio weather) This was hands down our favorite meal all trip… And we had some great food so that is really saying something. Their burger flavor/seasoning, snoqualmie milkshakes and onion rings are over the top and life-changing. Order at the counter and listen for your name so service is quick. Back to the onion rings… They are massive and they will literally change the way you think of onion rings forever more. I loved their veggie burger. It had A TON of flavor and didn’t fall apart like veggie burgers tend to do. Everyone got a different burger and everyone agreed this place absolutely KILLED IT! No one left hungry, that’s for sure.
Next, head over to the Fremont Bridge to see the Fremont troll and Gasworks Park, with a gorgeous view of downtown Seattle right on the water. We walked from Uneeda to all three (which was farther than expected, but definitely doable). Gasworks Park is a MUST, especially at sunset on a clear Seattle day. You get a view of the entire skyline right on the water.
Dinner: Pestle Rock Thai (2305 NW Market St, Seattle, WA 98107 // 206.466.6671)
Authentic Thai food. Great flavors and I was practically licking the curry sauce of my plate by the end of my meal. Their version of pad Thai noodles are astronomically better than Americanized Thai restaurants. The noodles are super skinny and it’s not as heavy as pad thai you typically see in America. Order the Mee Ka Ti or Kao Soi Curry. I got the Panang Salmon curry and it was a tiny portion for a large price. Flavor was perfect but left feeling hungry- same with their Muu Pha Lo (stew).
Drive to the Chittenden Locks to see the “engineering marvel” as boats pass through the locks from the bay to the ocean. You get to walk through a beautiful flower garden then you are right on the water to see the Locks.
Dessert: D’Ambrosio Gelato (5339 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107 // 206.327.9175)
UHH-MAZING. I prefer gelato over ice cream. If you prefer ice cream, Maggie Moo’s is a great option too. See more about that HERE. I mixed the chocolate and hazelnut- i always go with the rich flavors. Their sorbets were also fantastic. Dan mixed lemon and strawberry and finished every last bite. They have a list of signature flavors and they switch them out throughout the year depending on the season. I can’t wait to come back this summer and try their Lime Sorbet.
A small size gives you two scoops and you can put it in a waffle cone for an extra $1. If you can order ice cream without putting it in a waffle cone then you are so much stronger than I will ever be.
The best part is that you don’t have to worry about the calories because you will easily be walking them off all day.
