MEET THE COUPLE BEHIND JACKSON & HYDE

MEET THE COUPLE BEHIND JACKSON & HYDE

]“JACKSON AND HYDE: the cross streets in San Francisco where Genevieve lived when we met and fell in love.

Fast forward to our honeymoon in Central America one year later.  We were perusing a local’s market in search of a hammock and coffee when we encountered breathtaking cowhide clutches.  After deliberating for what seemed like hours in the sweltering heat, Genevieve was able to narrow her selection down to a couple of keepsakes for herself.

In the following months, the clutches began to take on a life of their own.  Whether we were at the grocery store, at a wedding, wine tasting or out to dinner, Genevieve was flooded with compliments.

Since then we’ve worked with our Central American friends and craftsmen to bring you our JACKSON AND HYDE cowhide leather designs. Our line has evolved from the original Signature Clutch to now include the Crossbody Clutch, Mini Hyde, Tote, Glasses Sleeve, Bi-Fold Wallet, Coin Hyde, Cowboy Wallet, Wristlet, Backpack and Boho Crossbody.”

So, Genevieve & Ryan decided to turn compliments into market research and they started their company in December 2014.

We got the opportunity to sit down with Genevieve and learn more about their first steps as entrepreneurs, their passions, and most importantly, where they like to eat in Spokane.

What was your defining moment?

We were champagne Tasting in Carmel, CA when a stranger complimented Genevieve’s bag and she told her it was from Nicaragua. The stranger then said “I’m never going to travel to Nicaragua, can I buy it from you”.

That is when I realized that I’m not the only one who thinks cowhide pieces are special or interesting.

Ryan and I both had corporate jobs that we loved. We watched shows like Flip or Flop and Shark Tank and we always dreamed of having a business of our own. It wasn’t until we returned from our honeymoon with cowhide clutches that were receiving non-stop compliments that we realized our business idea found us.

What sets you apart?

Each and every piece we make is unique and one-of-a-kind. We individually take pictures of each piece because we believe in having full transparency with our customers. We love that we can provide the ability to find a unique, one-of-a-kind piece that no one else will have. It’s totally your style, what speaks to you and is unique to your taste.

Where do you get your inspiration?

We get a lot of feedback and ideas from customers, friends and family. We listen to what those around us are telling us and we take those insights into consideration when we are designing new products.

Where do you like to shop?

The flower section of all the stores. We’re really into indoor potted plants right now. I’m also a sucker for vintage cowgirl boots, if they’re a size 8 I pretty much can’t pass them up.

What is your favorite item in your shop?

For me (Genevieve) it’s a tie between our Backpack and Wristlet. I use both everyday.

Where do you like to eat in Spokane?

We enjoy eating at 1898, Durkins and Cochinito Taqueria.

What can we expect in the future?

Home goods and travel! We are woking on exciting new items in both categories and we can’t wait to release our new cowhide designs soon!

What is your typical breakfast?

Depending on our appetite, either a healthy shake and buttered sour dough toast or we go big with scrambled eggs, spicy sausage with cheese and hash browns.

What would you eat for your last meal?

Tacos all the way. Every day.
