We’ve talked about our physical health, mental health, emotional health, financial health but I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve completely neglected my eye health for nearly TEN YEARS. I’d never miss a dentist appointment or medical check-up, but the eye doctor… I always thought was a luxury, not a necessity. I could not have been more wrong.

At my check-up at EyeGuys Optical, I learned to take my eye health very seriously. Below is a breakdown of eight reasons you should visit Eye Guys Optical and stop neglecting your eye health:

EyeGuys Optical offers an extensive selection of fashionable frames for patients of all ages. All of their eyeglasses are prescribed with precision and are custom-fitted for comfort and correctness.

At EyeGuys Optical, they care about you and your vision. They take the time and extra effort to ensure your prescription is perfect for you and you will be comfortable with your new glasses or contacts.

When you visit the EyeGuys office for an eye exam, they ensure that ample time is scheduled for a comprehensive assessment of your vision needs. Your vision will be carefully and expertly evaluated with the latest in diagnostic equipment and technology. If necessary, appropriate treatment will be prescribed – whether it’s medication for an eye disorder, lenses for vision correction, or vision therapy due to an injury or disease.

Another awesome benefit of seeing the experts at Eye Guys Optical… they don’t have to dilate your eyes! They use optomap instead which takes photos of your retina. This means no down time and the doctor then has photos they can watch and track year to year.

Because… ain’T nobody got time to walk around with dilated eyes and those super attractive light blocking plastic glasses all day. 🙂

Fun Fact that are actually not so fun… During everyday activities, we blink around 20 times a minute. When you are starring at a computer or phone screen, you blink around two times a minute. TWO TIMES. The act of not blinking kills your oil glands because they get clogged and start to die off. Scary stuff, huh? Mix that in with the dry climate we live in and you have yourself a lot of people that suffer from dry eyes.

But, no fear, because the EyeGuys Optical team are dry eye specialists! They sent me home with a dry-eye kit including fish oil pills, a warm eye mask and special makeup remover.

The Blue light blocking lenses at EyeGuys Optical block UV, A, B, C and Blue Light to help protect your eyes.

Clearly I spend a lot of hours every day staring at screens, so these extra precautions to protect my eyes from the harmful rays will benefit my long term eye health.

For my blue light glasses, I chose some super cute turquoise framed Ray-Bans. The blue light blocking lenses from EyeGuys are the first I’ve seen that aren’t tinted. They’re completely clear so they don’t change the colors you see (which is a huge benefit for photo editing).

Another reason I’d highly recommend ordering through EyeGuys Optical and not a generic retailer, they can create lenses to correct other eye issues while still protecting against blue light. For example, my nearsighted vision is perfect so I don’t need a prescription on blue light glasses, however I do have an astigmatism so I benefit from that adjustment in my blue light lenses.

5. PREMIUM LENSES – including sunglasses

EyeGuys Optical is dedicated to offering only the best lenses that will help you see clearer. From polycarbonate, UV filter, anti-reflection, transition, bifocal, progressive, and polarized – they can create the lenses you need right here in their office in Hayden, Idaho. They can also create prescription lenses for just about any sunglass frame.

For my sunglasses, I chose Shwood. I love that they are so unique, made from wood, but a classic style that I won’t get tired of. Seriously though, this was the hardest decision! I didn’t know if i’d like having my prescription in sunglasses but it’s a game changer. It’s a win-win because I get the benefit of sunglasses while still being able to read street signs as I’m driving. I feel so much safer!

The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends that most people have an eye exam every one to two years depending upon age and health. An annual eye exam is one of the most important diagnostic and preventative measures you can take to protect your vision and health. If you are in a higher-risk category for eye disease or complications your eye doctor may recommend more frequent exams.

I started the appointment with a variety of tests consisting of pictures of my cornea, an air puff pressure test (tells how healthy your eye is and how soft or hard your eye is), optomap in place of dilation, and pictures of my oil glands and lower lash line to see if they are working properly. All of these tests were quick and completely painless.

In addition to their extensive selection of name brand frames and premium lenses, EyeGuys Optical operates its own in-house lab – one of just a few here in Kootenai County. Their onsite laboratory makes it fast and easy to provide for your eyewear needs.

In some cases, they are able to offer same day service on some eyeglass prescriptions and eyeglass repairs. They are also able to provide specialty items such as anti-reflection coatings, scratch resistant coatings, edge polishing, ultraviolet coating (UV blocking), and custom tinting.

Their friendly, professional staff will be glad to help you select the most flattering style for your needs within your budget. You’ll recognize many of the name brand frames they offer. Top quality, stylish, trendy, you name it…they offer eyeglass frames that will complement your style and go easy on your wallet.
