TOP 10 SALADS IN SPOKANE

TOP 10 SALADS IN SPOKANE

Anthony’s at Spokane Falls (510 North Lincoln Spokane, WA // 509.328.9009)

This is my favorite Cobb Salad. It is stacked high with oregon coast shrimp, mango, avocado, tomato and bacon on mixed greens tossed with fresh basil vinaigrette and crumbled blue cheese. This salad is fresh, it covers all the food groups, and it’s guilt free! You can’t beat the view of the Spokane River off Anthonys large outdoor patio either. If salads aren’t your thing, then you are probably not reading this post, but i’d also recommend their award winning chowder and their Dungeness Crab Cakes.

Blackbird (905 N Washington St, Spokane, WA // 509.392.4000)

(FEATURE IMAGE) I really have to hand it to “The Blackbird” for their creativity and not being afraid to think outside the box! Their taste, presentation, and service are all 5 star. Their menu changes with seasons and availability but I ordered the Grilled Acorn Squash salad with toasted walnuts, arugula, brown butter vinaigrette, and shaved cranberries and it was the perfect dish for the weather. Again, if you’re not into salads: order the bacon fat popcorn and their brisket sandwich. The meat on this sandwich is sliced like bacon with palm sugar, pecan aioli, sweet onion, and a sticky bun. It was massive and perfect in every sense of the word.

Mizuna Restaurant & Wine Bar (214 N Howard St, Spokane, WA // 509.747.2004)

They offer a dynamic, seasonal menu with a variety of sandwich and salad options for lunch. “Our philosophy is that with proper cooking techniques, fewer ingredients are necessary to bring out food’s true flavor. Above all, we believe in simple, honest food.” I ordered their Grilled Sesame-Miso Ahi Salad which came with spinach, carrots, cabbage, cilantro, sesame-miso vinaigrette, cucumbers, pickled ginger, and daikon radish sprouts. The portion looks small, but it was surprisingly filling. We also tried the Roasted Beet Salad with grilled chicken. Mizuna also offers mostly organic dishes, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Taste Cafe (180 S Howard St, Spokane, WA // 509.468.2929)

Taste Cafe offers a salad sampler plate where you can choose from their various salads on display and try various flavors. I love Taste for a quick, healthy bite for lunch! They have great sandwich, salads, wraps, and soups. And their chocolate chip cookies…. WOW. To die for. My favorites here are their beet salad, asian chicken salad, sesame kale salad and the curries chicken salad. So yeah, I’ve been here a time or two. If you’re afraid of Kale, don’t be afraid of this salad, it is light and crunchy and has just enough flavor to make you forget you are eating kale.

MAIN MARKET CO-OP (44 W Main Ave, Spokane, WA // 509.458.2667)

Main Market Co-op is home to the only organic salad bar in Spokane. I thought I would miss having a Whole Foods nearby, but Main Market makes me forget Whole Foods even exists. They have a hot and cold salad bar with selections that change daily. Their salad dressings are BOMB. In the grocery section, you can find a wide variety of locally made/supplied products and goods. Visit their bulk food section to stock up on some of your kitchen essentials like flour, oats, rice, nuts, etc. You can even find local, fresh kombucha for $2.29/glass and, my favorite, “grind-your-own peanut butter” without all the added sugar and junk they put into packaged peanut butter.

Ask them how to become a member to support the community and local farmers. Look for updates on their Facebook page for daily specials

Downriver Grill (3315 W Northwest Blvd // 509.323.1600)

Downriver Grill has been on our top 5 list for a long time and it’ll take a lot for it to get bumped off. The chef and the owner are extremely passionate about their food and they have a mission to serve up the best dishes in Spokane. They know it tastes good and they know the science behind why it tastes so good. Both owners are also chefs which makes a big difference in the quality and flavor behind the food Downriver Grill serves. Not only must it be approved by the head chef, but it must pass through two additional chefs (the owners) before it is deemed worthy to add to the menu.

Below is the Grilled Chicken Panzanella Salad, made with butter, lettuce, grilled chicken, tomato, fresh mozzarella, grilled bread, roasted red pepper, kalmata olives, and housemade fresh avocade dressing. This salad was light and the dressing was fresh. This is one of their most popular salad choices, but they have a great selection of other bold salads perfect for a lunch date on their patio.

Clover (913 E Sharp Ave, Spokane, WA // 509.487.2937)

My first impression upon arriving at Clover, was that it is very clean, quaint, and cozy. This isn’t a super cheap lunch spot, but it is worth the money. Everything is made fresh, with appropriate seasonings and efficient service. Clover is located inside a renovated home and you can eat upstairs or downstairs. The front is covered with windows, allowing lots of light into the space, while it maintains it’s romantic feel. You enter the doors and Clover and immediately feel relaxed and warm.

I tried Clover Cobb Salad which I have renamed the “Unconventional Clover Cobb Salad”. This Cobb had no egg, no bacon, no tomato, no cheese. Not exactly what I would call a cobb, but a fresh and delicious salad, none the less. It is served with bib lettuce, red pepper, artichokes, avocado, pickles and your choice of salmon or chicken. I’d recommend adding the salmon.

Palm Court Grill at The Historic Davenport Hotel (10 South Post Street, Spokane, WA // 509.789.6848)

Did you know the Crab Louis salad was created here!?!? Right here in Spokane! At Palm Court Grill inside the Historic Davenport Hotel, one of their most popular dishes overall is their infamous Crab Louie Salad. Chef Edward Matthew was the head chef at the Davenport Hotel when it first opened in 1914. He spared no effort to bring the cuisine of the Davenport Hotel to the highest possible point of excellence. He was the original creator of the Crab Louis Salad, which he often prepared for Louis Davenport. People still rave over this salad, packed with fresh dungeness crab and tossed in the Davenport Louis dressing. Don’t ask for the recipe, it’s a secret.

Picabu Neighborhood Bistro (901 W. 14th Spokane, WA // 509.624.2464)

They have about 10 salads on their “Summer Salad” Menu. Or, if you aren’t into one of those, then you can design-your-own salad. They offer quite a variety of salads, dressings, proteins, cheeses, etc. Picabu is a cute spot to grab lunch or dinner on the South Hill. They have a variety of menu items that I have heard rave reviews on. Besides their salads, I also love their Cactus Burger.

Saranac Public House (21 West Main Avenue Spokane, WA // 509.473.9455)

Ok, so this dish is not quite a salad but it does have cabbage, vegetables, and its topped with a peanut dressing and chicken. It is called the Thai Rice Bowl. Mainly I just couldn’t resist telling y’all about it.  I will no longer be able to eat regular rice. It must be soaked in coconut milk from now on. Thanks Saranac. I was licking their thai rice bowl clean. Don’t even get me started on their Mac & Cheese.

Keep eating, Spokane.

And remember to tell them we sent you!

XOXO
