8 SPOTS TO GRAB TACOS ON NATIONAL TACO DAY

8 SPOTS TO GRAB TACOS ON NATIONAL TACO DAY

October 4, 2017: One of the most important days of the year.

NATIONAL TACO DAY

When it comes to finding taco’s in Spokane, the choices are plentiful. I narrowed down the list a bit to share some of my favorites. Enjoy!

1. De Leon’s Taco & Bar (10208 N Division St Ste110, Spokane, WA // 509.822.7907)

The Mahi Mahi tacos at De Leon are my favorite. Hands down. Unfortunately, these aren’t included in their 6 taco sampler plate for $12. So, the best way to try a variety would be to get the 6 tacos sampler and add some Mahi Mahi and Shrimp Tacos on the side to try them all! Their Al Pastor tacos are authentic and we have to order one of those every time we come. The tacos are cheap and the meat is fresh and lightly seasoned. Did I mention their home-made tortillas? Yeah. They’re BOMB and one of the only places in town that makes them fresh.

As north siders, we will be regulars at De Leon’s Taco Bar on Saturdays around lunch time. It’s a great, chill spot to grab a bite without all the grease. At De Leon’s you know the ingredients are simple, homemade and fresh. If you haven’t visited their original location on 102 E Francis Ave, they have a tortilla factory, Hispanic grocery store, bakery, restaurant, and catering options.

2La Michoacana (9907 E Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA / 509.926.8251)

La Michoacana is a different caliber of Mexican cuisine. You can get a traditional Mexican taco or choose to be a little more adventurous with some “cactus and tongue”. I’m a fan of the tortilla soup, adobada tacos, and chicken fajita burrito. All tasted super fresh, lots of flavor in each dish (tortilla soup was perfectly smokey and the tacos were extra limey). At La Michoacana, they aren’t afraid to spice things up, so come prepared. They serve complimentary salsa and bean dip as appetizers and make sure you take a peek in the mini market where you can purchase mexican spices, drinks, and party supplies. Win-win-win.

3. King of Tacos Food Truck

King of Tacos began serving tacos in booths at various events each summer and they have transformed into a full time restaurant on wheels! King of Tacos offers up a simple menu that has a focus on some of the most flavorful Carne Asada Beef offered in the area. Street Tacos are their best seller and they can be found around town while the weather is nice. Check their Facebook page for updates on where they are serving.

4. Atilanos Mexican Food (725 W 3rd Ave, Spokane, WA // 509.838.7677)

Looking for a super cheap, fast food meal? You can find just that at Atilanos. With multiple locations around town you can grab tacos or burritos in large portions for under $10. The chicken was a lot better than expected and you can’t get much cheaper than this for the amount of food you’re getting. Regardless of what meat you choose, the tacos are loaded! Great late-night option!

5. Borrachos Tacos & Tequileria (211 N Division St, Spokane, WA //509.822.7789)

$1 street tacos on Tuesday (and even though Taco Day is on a Wednesday) these tacos are cheap and tasty. Expect a big crowd on Taco Tuesday, so learn patience and make sure you order at least three, because they’re pretty small. My favorites were the carne asada & pescado. They have a nice, big outdoor patio perfect for a sunny day or a night by their fire.

6. Tacos El Sol (401 W Sprague Ave, Spokane, WA // 509.216.2554)

The street tacos from Tacos El Sol food truck are definitely worth checking out if you’re wandering downtown and in the mood for something quick, easy, and portable. I’m all about quick and convenient when I get “hAngry” after too much shopping at Riverpark Square. Another perk, they park in the same spot, so you always know where to find them!

7. Mixed Plate Food Truck

Mixed Plate Food Truck offers unique and delicious Asian and Pacific Island influenced dishes you can’t find anywhere else. The ingredients are fresh, local, and healthy. Everything is made from scratch. They make a mean Beef Bulgogi and, for the sake of this article, enjoy it in a taco, but they also serve it as a bowl over rice.

8. Hotel RL Restaurant & Bar (303 W North River Dr Spokane, WA // 509.326.8000)

If y’all haven’t been to Hotel RL lately, you HAVE to go! This is the perfect excuse because guess what… They serve street tacos! This is not your typical hotel bar food. They have recently renovated their lobby and restaurant area and it is incredible. Think “glamping” meets Pier One, but better and more true to our unique Spokane vibe. In addition to the updated aesthetic, their restaurant, aptly named ‘The Restaurant at Hotel RL’,  is entirely new and inspired by local produce and flavors. With this new menu, you can expect a lot of citrus, bright colors, and the incorporation of more fruits and vegetables. Don’t worry if fruits and veggies aren’t your thing, they also have some hearty dishes like “Grown up Mac & Cheese” and a variety of “Street Tacos”.
